Why I Love Living In The Lehigh Valley

By Lisa Strohm

There’s no greater feeling than loving where you live. No matter what your passions, interests, and hobbies are, there’s something for you in the Lehigh Valley. From its rich history to its sports and love of the arts, there are so many things that make the Lehigh Valley unique. Here are three reasons I love living in the Lehigh Valley—and three reasons I think you will too.

1. Location, Location, Location

There are three cities located in the Lehigh Valley: Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton. The cool part? Each of these cities has its own unique vibe and downtown area. And they’re so close to each other that it’s easy to live in one, work in the other, and take the kids to a baseball game in the third.

Speaking of kids, the Lehigh Valley is a great place to raise a family. It’s a quaint suburban place, yet it’s only a short drive away from bustling cities like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and the Washington, D.C., area. You get the best of both worlds living here.

2. We’re Rich With History

Pieces of American history can be seen all throughout Lehigh Valley. During the Revolutionary War, the Liberty Bell was actually hidden in Allentown under what is now the downtown area. In Easton, the Declaration of Independence was read publicly for one of the first times in July 1776. And the Bethlehem Steel Corporation manufactured steel for the Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building, and the Hoover Dam. (1) Cool, right?

3. There’s Always Something To Do

There’s no limit to what you can do in the Lehigh Valley. Looking for affordable family entertainment? Go cheer on the IronPigs, our minor league baseball team, at Coca-Cola Park. Or watch our professional hockey team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, battle it out on the ice at the PPL Center. No matter what you choose, there’s not a bad seat in the house.

There’s also an abundance of greenery just begging to be explored. You can go kayaking on the Lehigh River in the summer or skiing on nearby slopes in the winter. And regardless of the season, you’ll always have a place to go hiking, cycling, or running.

The music and culinary scenes rival any nearby metro area. Musikfest, the largest non-gated music festival in the country, takes place every August in Bethlehem, and many of the performances are free to the public. Breweries, wineries, and distilleries abound with an active micro-brewing community and our own wine trail.
