See A Sample Retirement Plan

By Lisa Strohm

When’s the last time you made a major purchase, sight unseen? You most likely haven’t.

It would be incredibly risky to buy a car without driving it first, or put an offer on a home you haven’t walked through. At The Athena Network, we don’t think you should take risks or cut corners with your financial planning either.

Because we develop custom comprehensive financial plans for each client, it’s no easy task to provide one without working extensively with you. However, we’d like to present you with one component of a sample financial plan – The Retirement Plan – to help illustrate the clarity and confidence it may provide to you and your family.

The Comprehensive Financial Planning Process

Our comprehensive financial plans are created to help you to build and live the life you want. We first work to gain an understanding of your financial situation and lifestyle, help you to identify your priorities, and translate those priorities into meaningful financial goals. We then develop a road map to help you achieve those goals.

We leave no stone unturned, addressing all aspects of your financial life, including Retirement Planning, Social Security strategies, Education Planning, Estate planning, Employee Benefits Analysis, Risk Management, and more. Depending on your needs, your plan may narrow in on one overarching element or address multiple goals you’d like to achieve over time.

Whatever you choose to focus on, your financial plan is designed to guide you from point A to point B with clarity and confidence. Planning is not a one-time event; rather, it is a fluid process that changes as your life and goals change.  Because of that, the plan components are updated as needed over time. The result is a simple yet powerful process leading you toward financial independence.

An Important Plan Component:  The Retirement Plan

One important component of a comprehensive financial plan is the Retirement Plan (also known as the “Financial Independence Plan”).  Your individual Retirement Plan is created to help you determine at which age you may have the option to work or not, identity what factors impact that decision, and map out a plan to get you to the date you want.

While most people leave meetings with their financial advisor confused about what’s happening with their money, we work hard to make the complex simple. We do all we can to ensure you’re completely aware of your Retirement Planning strategy and the reasoning behind our recommendations.

See A Sample Retirement Plan

We’ve developed a sample Retirement Plan for a fictional couple that reflects our planning process. It looks at the couple’s current financial situation, pre-retirement savings, expected retirement income and expenses, and retirement timing and income goals. The plan then identifies the couple’s ability to fund their retirement goals, and suggests strategies to address any shortfalls. We review the plan and strategies with you in detail and update it as your life circumstances and goals evolve.

Keep in mind that this is only a hypothetical plan presented to illustrate what a client’s plan may resemble should they work with us. The characters and circumstances are completely fictional and are for illustrative purposes only. Be sure to seek the advice of a qualified professional for your particular situation and not rely upon any of the information herein to make personal financial decisions.

Once you’ve had a chance to go through it, schedule an appointment with me online so we can discuss how we can create a tailored financial plan for you. You can also reach out to me at or 484.224.3439.
